How to Create and Set Up a Crypto Wallet with MetaMask
At Potcake Rescue, we know many supporters are new to Web3. This simple tutorial will walk you through how to create your very first MetaMask wallet — one of the most widely used wallets for holding digital assets like ApeCoin. We’ll also show you how to give your wallet a custom name, so it’s easy to organize as you go.
Important: Your wallet holds real assets. Please read carefully and follow each step.
NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE: We are not financial advisors and offer this information purely for educational and entertainment purposes only. Do your own research (DYOR) please!
Above is a video if you’d prefer to follow along that way. And at the very bottom of this blog post is an image gallery that will allow you to see the images bigger if needed.
Step 1 — Go to the Official MetaMask Website
Go to MetaMask.io and click GET METAMASK.
Step 2 — Install the MetaMask Extension
Click Add to Chrome (or your preferred browser) to install the MetaMask extension.
You may see a pop-up asking you to confirm. Click Add Extension.
Step 3 — Start the Setup Process
Once installed, MetaMask will launch. Agree to the Terms of Use. Since you’re starting fresh, select Create a new wallet.
Step 4 — Data Sharing Preferences
MetaMask may ask if you want to share usage data to help improve the app. You can select I agree or No thanks based on your comfort level.
Step 5 — Create a Strong Password
Create a strong password that you will use to access MetaMask on your device. Remember: MetaMask cannot recover this password for you.
Step 6 — Secure Your Wallet
Click Secure my wallet (recommended) to begin protecting your account with your Secret Recovery Phrase.
Step 7 — Reveal & Write Down Your Secret Recovery Phrase
Click Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase and carefully write down the 12 words shown. Store these words offline in a safe place.
Warning: If you lose this phrase, you lose access to your wallet forever. Never share it with anyone.
Step 8 — Confirm Your Secret Recovery Phrase
You’ll be asked to confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the words in the correct order.
Step 9 — Installation Complete
MetaMask will now confirm that your installation is complete. You can pin MetaMask to your browser toolbar for easy access.
Step 10 — (Optional) Solana Pop-Up
MetaMask may notify you about new Solana support. Since we’re using MetaMask for Ethereum and ApeCoin, you can safely click Not now for now. But, this is great to know because other NFT collections like our friends at Fat Rat Mafia use Solana for its Lab Rats collection.
Step 11 — Your Wallet Is Ready!
You’ve now created your first MetaMask wallet. By default, your first account will be named Account 1.
Step 12 — Rename Your Account (Optional but Recommended)
To give your account a custom name:
1️⃣ Click the three-dot menu next to your wallet name.
2️⃣ Select Account Details.
3️⃣ Click the pencil icon next to your account name.
4️⃣ Enter your new custom name and click ✔️ to save.
You’ll now see your custom name displayed in MetaMask.
Step 13 — You’re Done!
Your MetaMask wallet is fully set up and ready to receive tokens like ApeCoin. Our next video and blog post will have instructions on how to purchase ETH on the Ethereum network and convert the ETH to ApeCoin so you are ready to mint!
Final Reminders:
✅ Only use MetaMask.io to download.
✅ Keep your Secret Recovery Phrase offline and private.
✅ Never share your recovery phrase with anyone, even if they claim to work for MetaMask.

Our Story – How Potcake Rescue Began
King Wills the Sweetest of The Bahamas
Pirate Potcake Sonny, our OG from the Turks & Caicos
Shannon, Zoe, and Mat
How in the world did all this get started? Well, my wife and I were on an island in the Caribbean Sea when we saw a familiar sight: stray dogs roaming in the heat. One in particular was laying motionless on a gravel road. We stopped to check on him and long story short, helped him recover and brought him to Missouri as a foster placement. With two cats at home, we weren’t sure how it would go—but he flourished, and he was named Sonny. A year later, we adopted Willie, another Potcake rescued from The Mud, a Haitian village on Great Abaco, Bahamas destroyed by Hurricane Dorian. Our experiences led us to work directly with Abaco Shelter and to support about 20 strategic partners—thus, Potcake Rescue was born.
Shooting the Potcake Rescue short film for Samsung first led us to Great Abaco Island, which became a turning point. We plan to eventually move our family to The Abacos and immerse ourselves in the island life, the people, and—of course—the dogs. Now based on the Space Coast of Florida, we continue our mission, inspired by Sonny and Willie’s transformation.FAQs About Rescue Dogs
