About Us

Potcake Rescue is focused on saving stray and abandoned island dogs in The Bahamas known as the beloved Royal Bahamian Potcake. We’re creating multiple income verticals to support the ongoing efforts of Abaco Shelter and its strategic partners. For those unfamiliar with the term Potcake, they are named after the “cake” that remains at the bottom of a POT of peas and rice, a staple meal in the islands. These leftovers are sometimes fed to the stray dogs.

Starting as a short documentary film turned blockchain-based art initiative, our project is not just about rescuing dogs, but also about sharing Bahamian culture through the arts with many talented collaborators. We are bringing a little piece of The Bahamas to you while having an impact on thousands of stray and abandoned island dogs.

We take pride in our mission, and our team is dedicated to making a difference for these deserving dogs (and cats!). So come along on the journey and join our Royal Family.

What is Potcake Rescue all about?

This is truly a team effort with some amazing organizations and heroes stepping up to help with trapping and fostering, transport and adoptions, and even daily feeding and scooping! Although the pups in the shelter are better off than they were on the streets or in the bush, our ultimate goal is to get all these amazing dogs into loving homes and empty out the shelters. That's where our project comes in, with the potential to massively scale the impact of Abaco Shelter and its incredible partners.

Our digital collectibles’ mint date has not been announced and we are connecting with various sponsors and supporters to ensure a successful launch and implementation of the road map. We have SHIRTS, CHEW TOYS and COLLARS for sale! Follow us on X to get the latest info. Les make sumn happen!

DIVE DEEPER

  • Our mission is to make a significant impact on the lives of stray and abandoned island dogs in The Bahamas, the Turks & Caicos Islands, and beyond. By partnering with various organizations, we aim to enhance spay/neuter clinics, adoption efforts, and educational programs in schools and communities. These initiatives are funded through our brand of unique collectibles and products. Bahamian artist, Stevie Burrows, and team created amazing Potcake characters sparking a tall tale of adventure and fun. By purchasing toys, shirts, and ultimately, digital collectibles, you contribute to the well-being of these animals. Plus, we're thrilled to feature works from other Bahamian artists showcasing the vibrant culture of The Bahamas. Join us in this rewarding endeavor to make a difference today.

  • A digital collectible, also called an NFT (non-fungible token), is a type of digital asset that represents ownership of a unique item or piece of content, such as digital artwork or a collectible. Unlike traditional digital assets, the authenticity of NFTs is verifiable on the blockchain, ensuring they cannot be replicated or replaced. Think of it like a digital baseball card that is unique & verifiable, and it can be bought, traded, and sold.

  • No, you don't need cryptocurrency to support us. Our developers are creating a system that will allow you to purchase our digital collectibles with a credit card. However, we encourage you to explore Web3, including blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and NFTs. Joining our community in the Web3 space is a fun and engaging experience!

  • We are in the process of building our ROYAL FAMILY and launching an exciting range of products including toys, shirts, and collars. As we grow, we are actively seeking sponsors and investors who are interested in partnering with our brand.

While we are aiming for a 2024 launch of our digital collectibles, our priority is to ensure everything is perfectly in place before committing to specific dates. Stay informed and be the first to know about our progress by joining our newsletter!

  • Our primary goal is to rescue dogs, but we are also passionate about sharing the rich culture of The Bahamas with you. We will do this by sharing Bahamian art, including visual art and music, with our token holders.

We're also daydreaming about someone visiting The Bahamas, doing all the fun things, visiting Abaco Shelter, etc. We have several significant initiatives currently in development. Some will be announced to promote the project, while others will be delightful surprises. We’re thrilled about what’s coming!

Additionally, we are a community-driven project. We’ve already enjoyed activities like naming new shelter dogs, and our token holders will continue to play an active role in guiding the project. Businesses or fundraisers using certain IP rights will be encouraged and supported, too. Join us and be part of something exciting and impactful!

OUR ORIGINS

The Movie

We’d like to share a couple things with you about how we got started. We were invited to make a 360° (virtual reality) video for Samsung. In 2016, it was cutting edge technology and we ended up on Great Abaco Island in The Bahamas. Since then, we’ve learned that The Bahamas are in the West Indies geographically and the Caribbean from a political viewpoint.. Check it out to meet the founder of Abaco Shelter, Pops Weatherford, and to get a good feel for what the shelter was at that time. It has over 25,000 views!

The Abacos, Bahamas

We decided to move our family to The Abacos, a small island chain that’s part of The Bahamas. Located just about 150 miles from the U.S., it’s part of the West Indies. It’s a gorgeous place with beautiful people, amazing beaches, fantastic underwater life including the world’s third largest coral reef. There is an extremely interesting history, and the food…oh, the food! We’re first headed to the Space Coast as we navigate our way to to The Abacos. Follow along on our blog/vlog.

The Dogs

We have adopted two Royal Bahamian Potcakes. Our first is Sonny the Potcake, he’s world-famous. He’s the white dog with black spots. We found him in 2015 almost dead on the side of the road in The Turks & Caicos Islands (which were part of The Bahamas until 1973). His story is one of complete transformation. Willie, the brown and white dog born in 2016, was rescued from The Mud, a Haitian village in Marsh Harbour, Abaco that that was completely wiped from the Earth by Hurricane Dorian in 2019. They are best buds…loyal, hearty, smart, and very sweet. Sonny, who lived on his own for two years, seems to know just how lucky he is to have his family. Willie, rescued as a puppy, couldn’t have been a better match for Sonny. They are really what sparked Potcake Rescue…the movie, and now this movement here, with you. Let’s solve the stray island dog problem together!
